RoadFish.com mens lifestyle and finance magazine today issued their statement regarding the ins and outs of travel insurance, including when purchasing insurance may be a wise choice and when doing so might be superfluous and unnecessary. Taking tips from a recent TravelWires article, RoadFish.coms observations may help travelers determine a smart course of action this time of year when a record number of travelers will take to the air and roads to trek to destinations around the country and globe for the holidays.
TravelWires James (last name not published) recently authored an article including several stipulations as to when a traveler would not need to buy travel insurance for a trip, including conditions like using ones own fully-insured car to get to the destination and making a hotel reservation at a resort that is fully refundable in the event of a cancellation. The article also states that medical travel insurance is probably not necessary if full medical insurance is already in place for all travelers. But, it is unlikely in this day and age that all three of these provisions will be in place for every traveler.
RoadFish.com points out everybodys travel situation is different, and that each person should analyze their plans to choose whether travel insurance is a excellent option for them. RoadFish.coms Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, If youre simply driving three hours to Grandmas house for Thanksgiving, you are probably not a excellent candidate for travel insurance. I would recommend, but, getting an oil change or possibly some chains for your wheels if you are going to be driving in potentially terrible weather. Its the folks that have flights booked to Hawaii for Christmas, with the non-refundable hotel room in Maui, that would benefit from trip insurance, because they stand the most to lost if something went incorrect.
Companies like InsureMyTrip.com, Travel Guard, and Travel Insured Intl. offer to protect travelers health if they fall ill or have an accident on a trip, compensate costs in the event of a cancelled trip, and cover lost, stolen, delayed or hurt passenger baggage. Weather delays are also nearly always covered, but there are different plans that travelers can buy depending on the nature of their trip. For example, Travel Guard trip insurance has an extensive list of plans that includes everything from cruise coverage, to rental car insurance, to flight cancellation coverage. Travelers can pick and choose which coverage and how much to buy.
RoadFish.com feels that insurance coverage for holiday travel is especially applicable for those traveling to snowy and icy areas, especially because many airlines do not compensate fliers if there are delays due to weather or Acts of God. RoadFish.coms Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, I have flown home [to New England] many times from the West Coast and had flights be delayed and downright cancelled due to weather. If its weather-related, the airlines dont do much if anything in terms of compensation, because it is out of their control. Thats where travel insurance picks up. I dont reckon that travel insurance is for everybody, but people traveling in hard weather areas this holiday season should probably give it some thought.
According to AAAs recent annual Thanksgiving travel forecast, some 43.6 million Americans are predicted to travel 50 miles or further from their home during the Thanksgiving holiday week, which is 0.7% higher than those who traveled last year during that same time.
