Off We Go ? Vancouver, Canada

Flag of Canada? Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Wednesday, February 20, 2013

We have made it to our Canadian departure point.? Marty was not convinced we should leave Hazelton and would have been just as happy to spend a few weeks (or months) working on projects both vehicle and house related.? The ferry ride from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy was relaxing and quiet in our cabin on an empty boat.? We have determined that the North end of Vancouver Island is even more remote than Hwy 16, and then you get to Campbell River and the population explodes.? It was a bit of a change.? We spent a night with Wendy and Paul in Parksville then headed over to Powell River.?

Keith lived in Hazelton for 2 years and made it clear when he moved to Powell River that he wanted visitors.? I'd say that with the excellent food, beverages, ocean front digs, proximity to hiking and kayaking and now the hot tub that Marty and Keith put together, he can expect more

.? We have never been to the top end of the sunshine coast and it was quiet in February and we were treated to 4 days of no rain.? We wish we had the video to share, but late one evening a new friend of Kieth's asked if anyone liked the bagpipes.? Marty, in Scottish form and helped along by beverages replied enthusiastically.? Out come the bagpipes along the shore singing all the way to Scotland.? Fantastic.? We went clam digging in Desolation Sound and unlike the Razor clams on Haida Gwaii that we are used to chasing and digging up to our armpits to catch, we were instructed to use a garden rake and find these small white clams (not butter, not little neck, the other ones that start with an M) in the top 4 inches of sand.? Keith cooked then up in white wine and they were excellent, and made as good a chowder the next night.?

Vancouver is being good to us.? Our friend Sue lovingly gives up her apartment to us and Caleb loves it as he can play lego upstairs with Sue's nephew and niece.? Marnie had us for dinner, and we have been to Science World and MEC.? Jorja's appointments at Children's told us more about her kidneys which are both functioning well and that she has two urethras which apparently isn't a big deal.? As Caleb says, she has extra body parts!!? We leave on Friday after already feeling like we have had a holiday.? Family bonding is going well, and everyone is adjusting to their flexible sleeping arrangements.? Caleb woke up and said he missed Fergus this morning, but in general he and we are adapting to being the playmates.?

So, here we go, over the seas to find what we will.? Hugs to all, wish you were here.?
